Using Your Mind To Lose Weight: Positive And Determined Thinking

Every day, millions of men and women set out on the journey to lose those extra pounds and get back into shape. For most, this seems as an impossible task.

Why is weight loss such as insurmountable goal? The truth is; it isn’t.

Weight loss seems difficult because we convince ourselves that it is. We can’t bear thoughts of depriving ourselves from favorite food items. This is why shedding weight becomes not only difficult, but counter-productive as well.

The ‘no pain, no gain’ approach to weight loss is still considered to be the most effective although it’s about time this myth went out the window.

Let us put this way: Just how motivated will you be to achieving a goal – weight loss or any other – if achieving required being miserable, and in pain? Would you really stick to it? Probably not! Permanent and long term weight loss has to be pleasant, otherwise sticking to any routine will be a struggle.

So, how to make sure weight loss is achieved in a pleasant and sustainable manner?

Make Tiny Changes

The more drastic and different your eating plan is, the more likely you’ll abandon it. Keeping certain factors in perspective – your busy life for one – it’s much better and easier to keep the same eating plan and only making small changes accordingly.

The best place to start is food portions, i.e. reduce portions by as little as 5% and once you get used to this portion, reduce it to 5% more and so on.

Don’t Stop Eating What You Enjoy

People often stop eating their favorite foods in a bid to stay slim. If we think about it, is this diet strategy really sustainable? Not really. Instead of skipping out on your favorite goodies, prioritize. There’s no need to eat both a chocolate bar and cookie; so decide which has to go, and what sticks around.

Watch for the Last Third

There’ve been many times when we after getting to two-thirds of a meal, felt full. Do we stop eating? No, partly because there’s still food left on the plate or another on the table is still eating. Train yourself to stop eating when full. Doing only this will save you a lot of calories without feeling deprivation creeping in.

Stop Obligation Eating

Although this doesn’t apply to everyone, a lot of people feel pressured by their peers or relatives when it comes to eating more of a food. This is call eating out of a feeling of obligation or emotional eating. Whether it’s a pushy friend or a relative insisting you have ‘just another bite or slice’, learn to say no.
