If you’ve been recommended hypnosis by a professional, you probably have a lot of questions in your mind.
“Does hypnosis actually work?”
“Is it just another gimmick?”
These are legitimate concerns and it’s understandable why you’re concerned. After all, there are tons of myths and misconceptions about the technique online.
But hypnosis can be used to help patients gain control of their emotions, behaviors, and conditions.
With that in mind, here are 3 types of problems that can be treated using hypnosis:
Pain Management
A report published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2016, shows that at least 50 million Americans adults were diagnosed with chronic pain.
Studies show that patients with headaches, cancer pain, and back pain found relief after trying hypnotherapy.
Another report published by the American Psychological Association (APA) states that hypnosis has been effective in reducing pain and has also helped patients overcome feelings of anxiety, nausea, and stress before surgeries.
Weight Loss
You’re probably wondering what the connection between weight loss and hypnosis is. But it can help you lose weight and achieve your goals.
The hypnotist will first ask you questions related to your weight loss progress, journey, and your lifestyle. After they conduct induction and you’re in a state of hypnosis, they will then tap into your subconscious mind and try to figure out what’s causing the problem.
Is it emotional eating? Does it have something to do with stress or depression? When you’re hypnotized, you’re no longer making a conscious effort to avoid talking about certain aspects of yourself.
The hypnotist will then try to restructure your thought pattern by providing you with positive affirmations.
This will include:
- Visualizing success
- Positive thoughts to build self-confidence
- Overcoming the fear of failing to lose weight
A study conducted in 2014 showed that people who went for hypnotherapy to help with their weight loss journey were able to successfully improve their BMI.
Anxiety and Stress
Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., with more than 40 million Americans having been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.
Hypnosis can help treat anxiety and lower stress levels by helping professionals tap into the subconscious mind of the patient. This allows them to ask the right questions and gain access to the memories that have been suppressed by the patient’s mind.
Since patients under hypnosis are more responsive to suggestions, hypnotists can change negative thought patterns and restructure memories that otherwise trigger anxiety.
