Developing Self Esteem with Hypnosis

Self esteem is an integral part of our wellbeing. If the person has high self esteem, he or she will have utmost confidence in everything he or she does. Self esteem is evident in the person’s performance, behavior, coping skills and ability to manage stress and challenges of life. Our mental health is extremely dependent on our self esteem.

What is Self Esteem and How Do We Develop It?

“Self esteem is a way of thinking, feeling and acting that implies you accept. respect, trust and believe in yourself”, according to Edmund J Bourne, Ph.D.

Self esteem needs to come from within. It is not dependent on material possessions, and external objects. Self esteem can be cultivated by engaging in self nurturing activities, developing support and intimacy, taking care of physical well being and body image. Self talk and affirmations also play an integral role in enhancing self esteem. Affirmations are positive mind chatter that the person does to positively program the subconscious mind and regular use of affirmations can facilitate high self esteem. Self esteem is also dependent upon the person’s ability for emotional self expression. Additionally,  a sense of accomplishment also enhances self esteem significantly. When the person accomplishes a major undertaking and feels good about success, it increases the confidence level and also enhances the person’s self esteem.

We all have an inner child within ourselves. When we become adults and assume the role of caretakers for others, we begin to neglect the inner child. As a result, the person feels an emptiness within and latches on to external things to compensate for the inner void. Lot of time the person latches on to alcohol, cigarettes, drugs and food. Our basic needs are neglected and this causes the person to have low self esteem.

Impact of Childhood on Self Esteem

Person’s upbringing and childhood circumstances can also shape the self esteem of the person. Overly critical parents, significant childhood loss, parental abuse, parental alcoholism or drug abuse, parental neglect, rejection. overprotectiveness and overindulgence can also affect the child’s self esteem adversely.

Process of Building Self Esteem with Hypnosis

In my practice, I have treated many clients for anxiety, phobia, and they all lack adequate self esteem. They tend to berate themselves and lack confidence, in general. When I am addressing phobias and anxiety, it is equally crucial to work on the client’s self esteem so they develop confidence in facing their challenges.

Before I give them self esteem sessions, it is important to first do the induction to relax the client’s body and mind, then do the depth test and a deepener to deepen the relaxation followed by the self esteem suggestions and then emergence from hypnosis. I give them sessions of empowerment in hypnosis. I also help them visualize relaxing scenes and make a circle of confidence and store all the positive memories of their lives in the circle. They are given suggestions to access those positive memories when they are facing a challenge. I also do sessions on the inner child and help them get connected to the inner child and make a pledge to take care of the needs of their inner child. They are also given a set of affirmations for positive programming of the subconscious mind. During hypnosis they are given suggestions to set the dial at a desired level to access adequate amounts of confidence. There are many more confidence building sessions that are loaded with a variety of visualizations and hypnotic anchors and are offered to the clients during hypnosis sessions.

How Audio Facilitates Recovery

All my self esteem sessions have been recorded on my Google Drive and each client gets a set of audio files following the live sessions so that they can use them at home to further reinforce the suggestions. Audios play a very significant role in developing self esteem. Repeated use of audios make the suggestions permanent and the client benefits from them significantly.

Case Study: Improving Self Esteem with Hypnosis

I worked with a client who had a phobia of exams and had test anxiety. After giving her specific sessions to release test anxiety, I did some sessions on building confidence and self esteem. The combination worked so well and the client began to do her tests and got higher grades after receiving hypnosis sessions. She would listen to the audios in between the sessions and it really helped her improve her level of confidence. She started to get A grade in all her subjects in which she was struggling, especially Mathematics and Science.

In this way we see that Hypnosis is a very safe and effective tool to enhance self esteem. Confidence is the key to success and it helps master all kinds of fears and phobias. In hypnosis, the hypnotist bypasses the conscious mind and talks directly to the subconscious mind. All the positive suggestions are embedded directly into the subconscious mind which has 95% memory retention rate. So the suggestions begin to modify the behavior of the client and changes begin to take place.

I have helped numerous clients who came with the presenting problem of low self esteem and lack of confidence.
