Childhood Trauma: How Hypnosis Heals

Any professional who has worked with clients suffering from childhood trauma will tell you how difficult it can be to navigate. Childhood trauma manifests in symptoms of PTSD which can be anything from hyper vigilance and paranoia to avoidance and aggression.

When it comes to working with childhood trauma, hypnosis can be a particularly potent and effective tool.

Trauma and Repressed Memories

Though hypnosis can sometimes help people access memories that they may have forgotten, some sources suggest that imagery that comes up does not always come from memory. That said, the same source also states that hypnosis is extremely effective when working with childhood trauma.

It is not the accessing of lost memory that hypnosis helps with. Hypnosis helps equip an individual with resources that they can use to better manage the PTSD that exists.

Where Hypnosis Comes In

Hypnosis allows for those undergoing treatment to re-experience and restructure certain past events. In doing so the feeling of not having control is alleviated helping the client ground themselves further.

Hypnosis also works to address certain behaviors that may have rooted from said trauma. This could include sleeplessness, a lack of confidence, stress eating and so on. Apart from addressing the purely psychological aspects of the trauma, hypnosis is even highly effective against the physiological symptoms of the same.

Those who have experienced trauma such as sexual abuse for instance on occasion my respond in the long term with a violent aversion to touch and a possible disconnect from intimacy. Hypnosis can be extremely effective when helping people struggling with such issues reframe their perception of a certain situation and regain autonomy they may have lost.

A Process to See Through

Like most effective forms of therapy, hypnosis though effective might require a little commitment. Where there are times when a client is relieved of numerous stresses in a session or two, working with deeper traumas might take a series of hypnosis sessions.

That said, whether used alone or in tandem with other therapy, hypnosis is a powerful tool when it comes to giving people their lives back.

Winding Down

Anyone who has suffered childhood trauma knows how difficult and heavy it is to live in the shadow of the same. Fortunately, with techniques like hypnosis, we can empower ourselves by undoing the ways in which the traumatic experience has damaged us.

In doing so, we are able to live and experience more fully, less weighed down by disturbing and unpleasant ghosts of the past.

It’s nice that you pointed out how hypnotherapy for childhood trauma requires little commitment despite being effective. It looks like my cousin still has a trauma from being bitten by a dog when he was a kid, so he always go into a panic attack whenever he encounters a dog. We want to help him out so we should probably suggest hypnotherapy to him.

The article said it REQUIRES a little commitment. In other words, it DOES
require commitment. Probably a lot of commitment, like several sessions, work on the part of the now adult, on the part of the ones that love them, lots of money, etc. et al.
