How to Positively Influence Your Subconscious Mind

There’s often an analogy drawn between the multi-layered human mind and the structure of an iceberg. Much like the tip of the iceberg is only a fraction of the whole structure; the conscious mind is only part of human memory. A lot lies beneath layers of time, trauma and suppression. Therefore, it would be wrong to assume that the surface-level information is all there is to your memory.

The subconscious is all about the subtleties that govern our day to day life. It’s tuned to perform simpler functions so that the conscious mind is free to deal with complex tasks. The brain is an organ that operates in complicated ways. Conditioning and life experiences program our brains in a way that is unique to each individual. This is why each person responds to incidents differently. But it’s important to influence your subconscious in a positive way so as to ensure we have an optimistic outlook on life.

Here are a few suggestions to influence your subconscious positively.

Inner Talk

This method was designed by Eldon Taylor to condition both sides of our brain. All things literal are dealt with by the left hemisphere whereas the right hemisphere governs conceptual or associative understanding of things.

Taylor’s idea of inner talk addresses the audience with meaningful affirmations to engage the left part of the brain. For the right hemisphere, he chose to play recordings of directive voices. These recordings might seem incomprehensible to you because they’re beyond the scope of your awareness. The content is tailored for the subconscious so only that is able to understand it. This way you’re able to bypass the state of awareness on conscious level and get in touch with peripheral consciousness. This method slightly differs from hypnosis because it’s able to overcome defense mechanisms.

It’s important to note that comprehension or understanding is not important to this process. What’s essential is that the subconscious picks up the message that’s being delivered to it.

Binaural Beats

These beats are sounds with low-frequency that are played differently in each ear. Set below 1000 Hz, these sounds are not normally audible for humans because our hearing range lies between 20 to 20,000 Hertz. Since there are 2 differing impulses played as a combination in each ear, a third frequency is created in the superior olivary nucleus which casts a subliminal impact on consciousness. This process is known as brainwave entertainment.

These beats can be likened to the effect of meditation on the brain. Just like meditation helps you relax and releases tension, the binaural beats can also help reprogram the brain for lasting positive impact.

Meditation

This is the oldest trick in the book to train your subconscious with discipline and consistency. Even though the first two methods imitate a meditative practice, exclusive meditation is the most reliable way of influencing the subconscious. The effects of meditation are not just sensory but also biological as wave activity of Alpha and Theta waves is most obvious during meditation. An EEG can be used to monitor changes occurring in the body during meditation. It’s better to pair this method with the above two to achieve optimum improvement.

It’s important to train your subconscious to stay positive. Need help doing that?
