3 Conditions That Hypnosis Can Help With

Hypnosis has been used as an effective psychological tool for decades, and yet, the technique is still met with skepticism. Countless research studies have shown the benefits of this method for various conditions, all through bringing the subconscious into the conscious. Here are a few medical conditions that can be treated through hypnosis.

Dental Phobias

Dental anxiety is a term used to describe the fear one feels regarding dental procedures. In fact, even the sound of the orthodontic drill or the embarrassment of having a dentist inspect your mouth can qualify as dental phobia.  This condition affects up to 20 % of the global population, and can have people avoid going to the dentist for years, risking their oral health and hygiene.

Hypnosis can help remove this fear from the subconscious mind. The therapist creates a safe mental space for the client to relieve their feelings of dental anxiety, and “reprograms” the mind through positive reaffirmations. This helps them improve their thought process.

Pain Management

Hypnosis has been found to be extremely effective in treating chronic pain. Various studies  have indicated that hypnotherapy can be used to sooth pain associated with various ailments and conditions. These include arthritis, fibromyalgia, sickle cell disease, back conditions, and cancer.

Anxiety

According to ADAA, 18% of the adult population in the United States suffers from some form of anxiety disorders. As one of the most common types of mental illnesses, anxiety disorders induce a number of symptoms that can be difficult to manage if untreated.

Studies have shown the effectiveness of using hypnosis to treat anxiety disorders. This form of psychoanalytic therapy helps the hypnotist to get to the root of the problem, identifying what’s causing the person to feel stressed and anxious in the first place. The process allows the therapist to break through the patient’s subconscious mind and uncover the anxiety-driving forces. These are then addressed in later sessions and the person’s actions caused because of their anxiety are also improved.

For instance, a person with an anxiety disorder may bite their nails or pull at their skin. These harmful habits are altered through hypnosis, by first uncovering what’s causing this behavior and then reaffirming positive actions during the subconscious state.
