3 Best Ways To Deal With Your Procrastination Patterns

Almost all of us have procrastinated at one point or another, some of us more than others, especially as students. According to statistics, about 80% to 95% of students procrastinate, and about 50% of these students have problematic procrastination patterns that may continue beyond their student life.

So, are you one of them?

Given that you’re here, we’re guessing you are a procrastinator to some extent, but at least you’re not procrastinating about working on your procrastination patterns—that’s something to celebrate!

Here’s how to stop procrastinating, starting today!

Make Lists And Breakdown Big Projects Into Smaller Tasks

As procrastinators, we often lose track of everything that needs to be done. This is why it’s a good idea to make to-do lists. Ideally, you should have at least 2 lists; one with your urgent tasks for the day and another with important tasks that need to be accomplished but not necessarily on the same day.

Also, sometimes, big projects can seem overwhelming, or you might not be able to foresee how long a project might take until it’s broken down into smaller, more doable tasks. So, break down the project and set reasonable deadlines for each task. Once you start ticking off items on your to-do list, you’ll feel accomplished and motivated!

Manage Your Distractions

Did you know that many of us with ADHD are more likely to procrastinate? This is because we might get easily distracted!

So, for starters, if you procrastinate very often, it might be a good idea to get tested for ADHD. Even if you decide not to, consider managing your distractions. This may take some self-reflection to identify exactly where your time is going. For instance, if you procrastinate by mindlessly scrolling on your website, consider placing your phone out of reach.

Also, if you find yourself distracted by anything and everything, consider listening to white noise while you work.

Set A Reward System For Yourself

If you struggle to stick by your own rules, it’s time to start holding yourself accountable, but go easy on yourself. Promise yourself some rewards for good behavior!

Is there a show you really want to watch? Tell yourself you can only watch it when you complete a certain task. Craving pasta from your favorite restaurant? Only order it if you finish work before your deadlines. Seeing that little light at the end of the tunnel should keep your procrastination patterns at bay!

That being said, procrastination may become a serious problem when left unchecked. If these tips aren’t working, consider hypnosis for treating procrastination. At Blossom Hypnosis, we offer the best hypnosis for procrastination and other related problems.
