What Frequent Forgetfulness Means

Have you ever forgotten what you were saying right in the middle of talking? Or couldn’t recall where you put your keys less than five minutes after unloading your pockets to change clothes? Or forgotten what you had for lunch?

Most of us find ourselves in similar situations occasionally, and that’s okay because stress, anxiety and our tough routines don’t make our lives any easier. However, an increase in the frequency of these episodes could be a cause of concern.

If you feel like you’ve been having these episodes a lot more frequently lately, its worthwhile checking off a few factors to rule out any serious issues. Here are four non-serious things frequently forgetting stuff could mean.

You’re Not Getting Enough Sleep

Not sleeping enough is one of the most overlooked and underappreciated reasons for frequently forgetting things. An average person needs around 7–9 hours of undisturbed sleep.

Apart from this, lack of sleep can also cause other issues like mood changes, increased anxiety and even lack of concentration.

Your Medications May Be Causing You To Forget Things

If you’re on any kind of regular medication, for example antidepressants, tranquilizers and even some blood pressure medicines, there is a high chance that they could be causing all your forgetfulness issues.

Some of these medications cause sedation and confusion which can keep you from paying attention to certain things—affecting your memory. To navigate this, it’s best to call your doctor and address your concerns.

You Have An Underactive Thyroid

Another reason could be a faltering thyroid. This is more likely to be the case is you’re experiencing depression and a disturbed sleep cycle. To confirm this all you need to do is get a blood test done.

If you do turn out to have an underactive thyroid, call up your doctor to discuss further treatment options which will ultimately also fix your forgetfulness issue.

Even though these are the most common reasons of experiencing memory issues, there are several others—most of them being psychological like stress, depression, and even having experienced some trauma. The best way to deal with these issues is through hypnotherapy.
