Intimate Partner Violence is the word used for what was once called domestic abuse. Simply put, it is when one partner is aggressive, violent or physically abusive to another. The thing about IPV is that it usually does not happen once. The abuser in question is likely to behave in a violent manner again if they do not work to address their behaviors. The person on the receiving end of the violence in most cases is unable to exit or end the relationship because of misguided feelings of guilt.
It usually takes a long time for people to exit relationships where there is IPV and during this time significant damage may be done. According to research conducted by the National Institute of Health, IPV is closely linked to PTSD and other psychological damage.
The Road to Healing
After exiting an abusive relationship, the person on the receiving end is often in a highly traumatized state. It also takes an extremely long time to overcome and process the violence and abuse that one may have experienced.
Where conventional therapy is extremely effective, there are times when the trauma is just too deep to address from a conscious and cognitive place.
Healing Through Hypnosis
There are numerous symptoms that may be associated with PTSD that results from intimate partner violence that hypnosis can be a powerful tool to address. Some symptoms include low self-esteem, disassociation, paranoia and depression.
Apart from helping individuals process traumatic memories, hypnosis can be used to help reduce the constant stress and anxiety that may be felt due to the same.
IPV also results in an individual questioning their own ability to make healthy decisions and proceed with life so to speak. Through hypnosis, one can work to move from a place of insecurity and doubt to one of confidence and clarity.
Finally, hypnosis can help clients struggling with an aversion to physical affection that sometimes springs as a result of intimate partner violence.

Having experienced and survived intimate partner violence is nothing small and there are times when hypnosis alone may not be enough. That said, when it comes to tools to work with PTSD and other effects of intimate partner violence, hypnosis can help you process and overcome what you may have faced.
