5 Symptoms of Social Anxiety and How to Overcome It

Social anxiety is more common than many of us realize. According to experts, about 12.1% of US adults experience it at some point in their lives. Are you one of them? Here’s how to tell.

Unusual Body Language

One way to tell whether you have social anxiety is to see if your body language changes in certain social situations. A lot of people experience muscle tension and feel their bodies going tense. Some people start blushing a lot when they’re put on the spot. It can be quite difficult to notice these changes in yourself; ask a friend if they’ve noticed a change in your body language in a certain social situation.

Sweating And Uncontrollable Trembling

This is a more obvious sign, and people with moderate to severe social anxiety may experience this. If you feel your hands trembling right before a gig, or an office presentation, it could be more than just nervousness; it’s social anxiety. Many people also sweat a lot when they’re nervous; if you’re one of them, assess yourself for other symptoms of social anxiety.

An Increasingly Rapid Heart Rate

Does your heartbeat get faster as soon as someone approaches you? That sounds a lot like social anxiety too. This isn’t the same as getting butterflies just because it’s somebody you like and seek approval from. If your heartbeat increases rapidly and it feels like it’s harder to breathe, it means you have social anxiety that demands immediate attention.

Struggling to Find The Right Words

Many people with social anxiety also find themselves going completely blank when trying to participate in a group they’re not comfortable with or when they have to speak before a crowd. If you feel like you can’t find the right words, even when you had it all practiced, you’re probably experiencing social anxiety.

Overthinking Before And After A Social Situation

People who experience social anxiety are typically the ones who also overthink a lot. You may worry intensely before a social situation and keep worrying later on. You might also keep thinking about all things you did say, the ones you didn’t say, and everything you should’ve said instead.

Treating Social Anxiety with Hypnosis

If you’re experiencing any or all of these symptoms, you may have social anxiety to a certain degree. While it’s not the worst of conditions, it can still be pretty convenient.

Luckily, we can help to try and treat it with hypnosis. When you’re in a hypnotic trance, you become a lot more open and accepting of treatment and solutions.
